iBurst – Email Tutorial

How do I send and receive email once I have my iBurst broadband?
You need to use an email client or program such as Outlook Express or Thunderbird.
There are many other email clients we could use to send email however this post is for those folk who are new to computers and just need the basics.
Step one.
- Read through all the info before you follow this TUTORIAL step by step.
- Connect to the Internet by clicking on the iBurst Dashboard CONNECT button.
- Wait for the connection to take place on the iBurst Dashboard.
- The Dashboard should show you the CONNECTED status just above your signal strength which is displayed in percentage.
- Now open you email client Outlook Express you have loaded on your computer.
- Outlook Express could be situated as a shortcut on your computer desktop or find it by clicking on Start then All Programs and click on Outlook Express.
- Once the email program known as Outlook Express has started and loaded you need to receive your emails from the central email server.
- Your Internet Service Provider normally manages the mail server.
- Click on the SEND REC icon within Outlook Express.
- Your email should now start to download.
- Once you have downloaded your email you need to read your email by clicking onto the INBOX which is normally on the left hand side of your email window.
- Your email could have been setup with different Views so at times you may not find your INBOX.
- To overcome this you should see a little down arrow next to the displayed text.
- Click on this downarrow and then select the preferred view which should then display your INBOX and all the other boxes associated to your email .
- Once you are on the INBOX and you have selected the correct view your message should be displayed as a single line on the right window and the content of that email shown at the bottom of the split screen assuming you have gone for a horizontal look or displayed view. Remember there are many views you could have your email displayed in.
- To view the content of your email message you must double click the message in the top right hand window.
- The reason we double click the message is to have a new window displyed with the content of your email.
- You are now able to reply to that email by clicking on the reply window.
- When you reply to a message the email address is normally saved to your address book.
- Once you have completed your reply just hit or press the SEND button of that window.
- You have just read and replied to an email.
- To send a new email just click on the CREATE icon at the top left side of Outlook Expresss.
- Click on the TO icon to enter your email address.
- Once you click on the TO icon the addressbook normally opens allowing you to select the email address.
- If you do not have the email address in the addressbook then click inside the area next to the TO icon and enter the email address.
- Then click inside the Subject line and enter a subject your email is about.
- Then click in the body of the email window which allows you to enter your content or message.
- Always finish your email with your contact details.
- Then click on the send button or icon situated on the top left hand side of that window to send your message.
- Congratulations you have just read and replied and created your first email.
- OOTLOOK EXPRESS has a default time to check your email every 20minutes.
- If you need to check for new email just click on the SEND REC icon of the main OUTLOOK EXPRESS window that is open.
- Congratulations you have just requested Outlook Express to send and fetch your email from the server.
- If you have no other emails to send or receive then you could disconnect your iBurst broadband connection.
- Click on the Disconnect botton of the iBurst DASHBOARD.
- If the DASHBOARD is not there double click on the orange ib icon situated at the bottom right hand side of your taskbar.
- You do not need to close your email program as you are able to read or create new emails once you are offline.
- If Outlook says you are currently not ONLINE, you could say lets work OFFLINE.
- Remember to go online within OUTLOOK EXPRESS once you are connected to iBurst again if faced with this situation.
- How do we go ONLINE ? Once OUTLOOK EXPRESS is open goto FILE situated on top left hand side and select the work OFFLINE which should have the tick mark next to it.
- If the WORK OFFINE has no tick mark next to it that confirms everything is OK and you will be able to send and receive email. Just DO NOT HIGHLIGHT the WORK OFFLINE with your mouse if there is no tick mark next to it as you will then switch your email into the OFFLINE mode which will then prevent you from sending or receiving email.
- If you accidentally highlight the WORK OFFLINE just goto FILE and select the WORK OFFLINE field and once again you are back online with your email.
- ONLINE does not mean you are connected to the INTERNET as you will always use your DASHBOARD to connect and disconnect to the INTERNET.
