What is an iBurst hard or soft cap ?
by The Specialist SA on Jan.27, 2009, under Computer Wiz - Blog
What is an iBurst hard cap ?
- Once you exceed your monthly iBurst broadband cap on the KickStart 40mb or Playa 500mb package iBurst will introduce a hard cut to your internet connection.
- You would have to wait for the start of a new month to receive your new bandwidth allocation or
- You would need to top-up your account by purchasing additional bandwidth or
- If your account has the PAY-PER-USE option enabled then you will be allowed to use the internet however be prepared to receive an unexpected and possibly inflated account as they will invoice you for the additional bandwidth used on these two packages.
What is an iBurst soft cap ?
- The iBurst packages starting at the 1 Gig option and higher have a soft cap associated to these packages.
- If you exceed your high speed 1Gig cap iBurst introduces a soft cap which means they reduce your speed to the internet.
- They will not cut you off and you do not need to buy or top-up your iBurst account with any additional bandwidth.
- iBurst allows you to use an additional 19 Gig over and above your 1Gig access.
- Why would you consider topping up your account if you have free access to the internet ?
- The soft cap speed is set to 64kbps which allows a throughput of about 10 to 15kbps.
- Why be on a PAY-PER-USE option ?
- Always confirm with your ISP that the PAY-PER-USE is disabled on your account and package.

Needing a Wireless Broadband connection this week ?
by The Specialist SA on Jan.25, 2009, under Computer Wiz - Blog
Are you tired of being told that because your telephone line has been stolen or out of operation due to whatever reason that you will be without internet for the next four to 56 weeks.
Then look no further and contact computer wiz on 0861114731. We will supply you with a wireless broadband connection be it iBurst or 3G depending on your physical address location and how close you may be to an iBurst or 3G base station. Our 1st choice on choosing a broadband connection will always be iBurst.
The reason for this is that you will not receive any unexpected accounts on an iBurst broadband connection provided you have not topped up your account with additional bandwidth and you are on a 1Gig package as this package introduces a soft cap which means your download speed is reduced to 64kbps and that you will always be connected to the internet.
Computer Wiz requests that no customer enables the pay per use option as this Pay per use is enabled as default and its where additional data used above the month’s allocation will be billed at a per megabyte rate.
Why would you require this pay per use option rather than being on a larger package ?
We deliver your iBurst broadband or 3G equipment to your door within 5 working days if not sooner.
If you need to share your broadband connection be it at home or in the office why not ask us for a Linksys router as part of your package. The Linksys router will act as an iBurst gateway and has a WiFi access point built into it and includes 4 lan connection point which would allow you to hardwire any laptop or desktop computer to the router with CAT 5 ethernet cabling.
We do have other routers we are able to supply you with should you require a router with two wan ports as an example that could act as a failsafe fallover solution should one of your broadband connection become faulty for whatever reason, we do have these available on request.
