Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
by computerwiz on Oct.26, 2010, under Computer Wiz - Blog
ADSL or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line as we know it is a broadband technology or data communications technology that makes use of fixed line copper that originates from your closest telkom exchange and terminates in your home. The same pair of copper used by your telephone is used for your Broadband connection or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. The word ADSL or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line means that the speed is not the same in both directions, namely upload and download speeds.
The distance an ADSL works over a pair of copper wires is directly related to the thickness and length of that copper wire installed at your home or business.
Most ADSL connections are able to work to a distance of +/- 5.5km but this distance could be more, based on the quality of your copper and the type of adsl modem used.
Call Computer Wiz today and ask us about providing you with an ADSL connection.

WRC – World Rally Championship Game Review for pc

WRC – World Rally Championship
First impressions of the game play is that this really is hard. We are using the Logitech G27 racing wheel and pedals and it is our opinion at this time that as difficult as Need For Speed Shift was in the beginning, we believe that we need to spend at least 2 -3 hours on WRC to learn the driving style needed to overcome poor performance at this time.
Graphics and audio are good, no complaints from our side.
We are using an i7 system, p55 chipset with 8 Gigs of ram and a MSI N275GTX graphics card.
The system has no problem running this game….our driving skills are juast not good enough at this time.
We will post a follow up on WRC once we have spend a few more hours behind the Logitech G27 racing wheel.

Computer Wiz – Helping Earth – Solar Solutions
by computerwiz on Oct.19, 2010, under Computer Wiz - Blog
HELPING EARTH
Helping Earth, a division of Fridey Telecoms and Computer Wiz specializes in the following :
- Rainwater Harvesting – use this water on a daily basis in your home.
- Solar Inverters – Grid Tied or connected to a bank of batteries.
- Photo Voltaic panels for your solar system.
- Battery Technology – Lead Acid or Gel Type.
- Solar Hot Water Geyser system.
- Gas as an alternative to your electric stove.
- Consulting, selling and arranging an installer for any of the above requirements.
Helping Earth investigated the feasibility of introducing many of the systems mentioned above into a residential home and after careful consideration including the return on your investment, the following systems as mentioned below were introduced from a sustainability point of view going forward and with a view of knowing that the water harvested and used in your home is in fact of a better quality, and which could be managed to your own requirements and preferred standards which may include additional filters, etc.
- Fitment of 4 x 5000 litre Rainwater tanks -Saving of at least +/- R100 – R150 pm with immediate effect.
- Fitment of a Gas stove hob – not the oven. Your spend here could be about R180 over 6 to 8 months.
- Fitment of a Solar Hot Water Geyser system – Saving of +/- R200 pm going forward immediately.
The decision to postpone the installation of a Solar Photo Voltaic with Inverter is purely based on cost at this time.
The price of solar panels at +/- R 25 per watt is still far too expensive to introduce such a system.
