How to install the external iBurst omni-antenna.
The 1st step to installing your iBurst omni antenna is to know where the iBurst base
stations are situated in relation to your computer within your office or home.
Have a look at how high the trees are in relation to the iBurst base station.
The area of Walmer has many trees and the only way to overcome poor iBurst signal
is to install the iBurst external omni antenna.

The 2nd step is to view the location and terrain of your office or home. You may well be situated in a valley and this makes it very interesting in trying to overcome poor signal based on your homes location as seen below. The trees and buildings become your problem as the iBurst signal has no way of penetrating the many walls and the dense trees as shown in these photographs.

The iBurst base station is at the very far end of this road and because the iBurst base
station is not situated very high you may have difficulty locking onto this base station.
Find another iBurst base station that is possibly situated a little higher and a base station
that has a clear line of site as in this situation as seen from the apex of this roof.

The TV antenna is actually situated too low to be of any use for your iBurst external omni antenna. as the neighbours house is in the way and you need more height to overcome the dense vegetation not to mention the trees on the one side.

The customer requiring the iBurst borders the valley. See vehicle at far end of driveway
and see the trees and buildings the signal has to contend with.

If you are faced with such a situation then you must position the external antenna in such a way that it is able to communicate with other iBurst base stations within the area.

Position the antenna in such a way that it could possibly see this iBurst base station from this side namely the south or as seen in the next slide from the west.

Once the situation is assessed the only way to overcome this problem is to mount your iBurst external omni antenna in such a way that you now have a clear line of sight to your next iBurst base station as shown in the above slide. The iBurst base station situated in Linton Grange Port Elizabeth is actually quite high and here we have a clear line of sight.
Perfect.
Now mount the antenna after cutting a little hole into one of the roof tiles and then secure the extention tube directly to the roof trusses.
Remember to patch any holes with a membrane once you have completed your installation but only after you have tested the iBurst signal strength.

Membrane placed onto the tile to prevent water entering the home.

You only have 4.7 meters of coax attached to the external iBurst omni antenna so you may need to mount the iBurst desktop modem in a built-in cupboard as shown above.
See the green Light emitting diode which shows a perfect strong signal.
Now run an Ethernet cable to your computer from the iBurst Desktop modem.

See the grey CAT 5 ethernet cabling that runs from the ceiling to the ground floor.
Notice how neat and tidy this installation has been performed. You have difficulty
following the cat 5 cabling that has been secured with cable ties.

The tile has been patched with a membrane.
